How do you sell a junk car in Northwest Indiana?
Send the car's year, make, model and title situation through the form, plus your name, phone and the pickup address. We call with an offer. If you take it, pick a time; same-day pickup is often possible. The tow is free, you sign over the title (or, on a car 15 or more model years old, hand over a BMV certificate of authority), and you're paid at pickup.
Send the car
Year, make, model and whether you have the title. After that, your name, a phone number and the pickup spot.
Hear the offer
We call with an offer for the car as it is. No obligation to take it.
Pick a time
Same-day pickup is often possible. Tell us about keys, flat tires or tight spots.
Paid at pickup
The tow is free. You sign the paperwork and get your money as the car leaves, in cash or by phone transfer.
Where we buy: the roads that tie the area together
We buy junk cars in Hammond, Whiting, East Chicago, Munster, Highland, Griffith, Gary, Merrillville, Hobart, Lake Station and New Chicago. A tow driver finds a car fastest by its nearest main road, so that's how our area pages are built.
- Indianapolis BoulevardUS 41 through Highland, then State Road 152 and US 20 through Hammond toward Whiting and the state line.
- Ridge RoadThe old US 6 route on an ancient Lake Michigan beach ridge: Munster, Highland, Griffith, Gary and Hobart.
- Broadway (SR 53)State Road 53 from the Gary Works gate through downtown Gary and Glen Park to Merrillville and US 30.
- Borman ExpresswayI-80/94 from the Illinois line at Munster through Hammond and Gary to Lake Station, with exits at every road we cover.
- Cline Avenue (SR 912)State Road 912 from Ridge Road in Griffith, along the Gary and Hammond line, to East Chicago and the toll bridge.
- US 12 and US 20, GaryFourth and Fifth Avenues through downtown Gary, then the Dunes Highway and US 20 east to the Lake Station line.

Where the ridge ends
Our Indiana coverage stops at Gary and the towns touching it. We don't go east past Lake Station and Hobart, or south past Merrillville. Inside that line, every street counts, not only the six roads.

Paperwork, plainly
- With a title
- You sign the Indiana title over to the buyer at pickup, listing any liens. That's the whole transfer on your side; the Indiana BMV's buying and selling page has the official version.
- Without a title
- We can still help, but no Indiana junk car leaves without paper, however old it is. In place of the title, Indiana accepts a BMV certificate of authority, and only on a car 15 or more model years old; it costs $4, and the BMV wants proof of ownership such as the current registration. For a newer car the route is a $15 duplicate title, since a buyer who takes one with neither paper commits a felony. Say what you do have, like a bill of sale, the registration or an insurance card, and we'll settle the route when we call.
- Your plate
- In Indiana the plate stays with you. Take it and the registration off before the tow. What to do with the plate afterwards.
- Your insurance
- Call your insurer once the car has actually left, not before, so it's never sitting uninsured in the driveway.
Before you sell
- When your car breaks down on a Northwest Indiana highwayStuck on I-80/94 or another NWI highway: staying safe, INDOT's free Hoosier Helpers, the 24-hour rule and when to sell.
- Your plates after you sell a car in IndianaIndiana sellers keep the plate. What the BMV and the Indiana Code say about plates, registration and insurance after a sale.
- Can you trade in a junk car?Can a dealer take a car that does not run? When a trade-in makes sense for a junk car and when selling it outright pays more.
- Selling a junk car on Facebook Marketplace or to a buyerListing a junk car on Facebook Marketplace: no-shows, lowball messages, scams and paperwork, next to selling to a buyer.
Questions sellers ask
- Where in Northwest Indiana do you buy junk cars?
- In Hammond, Whiting, East Chicago, Munster, Highland, Griffith, Gary, Merrillville, Hobart, Lake Station and New Chicago. We don't go east past Lake Station and Hobart, or south past Merrillville.
- Do I need a title to sell my junk car in Indiana?
- You need the title or a BMV certificate of authority, and that's true for a junk car of any age. The certificate ($4 from the BMV, which asks for proof the car is yours, such as its current registration) takes the title's place only when the car is 15 or more model years old. Under 15 model years, it has to be the title, and the BMV will reprint a lost one for $15; the law treats buying a car that young with neither paper as a felony. Tell us what you've got in the glovebox or the kitchen drawer, like a bill of sale, the registration or an insurance card, and on the call we'll say which route fits your car.
- Is the towing really free?
- Yes. There's no towing charge, and nothing for the tow is taken out of your offer.
- When do I get paid, and how?
- Right there at pickup, as the car goes on the truck: cash or a phone transfer through Zelle, Cash App or a similar app.
- How soon can you pick up?
- Same-day collection is often possible. It depends on where the car is and how many pickups are already booked, so we'll confirm a time when we call.
- What condition does the car have to be in?
- Any condition. Cars, pickups, vans and SUVs that are wrecked, burned, flooded, stripped or dead in the driveway all get an offer.
The car's been sitting long enough.
Send the details and we'll call with an offer. Free towing, paid at pickup, anywhere from Hammond to Hobart.
